Sustainable Tallahassee is pleased to have partnered with Rainbow Rehab, Inc. to certify their latest home remodel through the United States Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. LEED certification provides verification that a building project meets certain standards of sustainability and energy performance. This home, located at 303 Putnam Drive in Tallahassee, will be the first LEED for Homes certified green remodel in the city.
The FSU College of Communication captured the exciting transformation of this home on film and has producing a documentary on the project that will educate the public on the joys and challanges of affordable green remodeling. Many thanks to Jeanette Castillo and her team!
For more on the Grand Opening, see our News & Events page.
The extra steps taken to achieve this certification will benefit the eventual home owner, and the community at large, by:
- Lowering operating costs and increasing asset value
- Reducing the amount of construction waste sent to the landfill
- Reducing energy and water consumption
- Creating healthier indoor air quality for occupants
- Reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions
- Qualifying builders and owners for tax rebates, zoning allowances and other incentives

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System is a voluntary, consensus-based national rating system for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED addresses all building types and emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies in five areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials and resources selection, and indoor environmental quality. |
