Big Bend Sierra Club: “A North Florida Cracker’s View on Conservation”

  • May 11, 2017
  • 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
  • United Church in Tallahassee, 1834 Mahan Drive

The Sierra Club’s speaker this month is Tallahassee Democrat senior writer, columnist and North Florida native Mark Hinson. His talk will include readings of his humorous columns satirizing everything from Walt Disney's environmental destruction of Orlando, fracking foolishness and the war on black bears.

On a more personal note, Hinson will sing the praises of the Hinson Conservation & Recreation Area along the Chipola River in Marianna. The park - which features hiking trails, a canoe-kayak launch, bluffs, caves, wild birds, endangered gopher tortoises and more - was once part of the Hinson family farm. The park was his late father's idea and legacy. It's also where Hinson grew up and got plenty of material for his columns and stories.
