Rags 2 Bags

Our Rags2Bags Team is Making Face Masks - and You Can Help!

Our Rags2Bags team is pivoting temporarily from making reusable shopping bags to making fabric face masks.  We are asking you to join us!

Here's how you can make face masks while socially distancing in your own home:

  1. You can access the pattern & directions HERE.
  2. Or, you can drop by and pick up a kit all ready to make.
  3. Then simply drop off your completed masks.

The pick-up / drop-off time and place is:
Every Thursday from 11 am to 2 pm, at Faith Presbyterian Church, in the parking lot next to the Church Office, 2200 North Meridian Street.

You can drop off without needing to leave your car. We will distribute to the agencies who have made requests for 1,000+, and we'll continue as long as this need exists!

Want to help reduce the use of plastic shopping bags?

Join our Rags2Bags team!

Our focus is to reduce the use of plastic bags by educating the public about the environmental consequences of single-use plastic bags.

We do that by making and giving away shopping bags that we make ourselves from donated fabric.  This one-on-one approach is a great way to educate and inspire people to change behaviors.

These bags have always been FREE and anyone can have them. Isn't that wonderful?

You're invited to join the group for good company and the chance to become part of this fun and funky reusable bag movement. If you're a novice, you’ll easily learn how to sew a basic fabric bag with braided handles (the hallmark of these bags). If you're an experienced sewer you can jump right into bag production.

Our Rags2Bags program is an important initiative in our focus to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.  If you're interested in more about our activities to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, consider joining our "Three Rs" Committee, where we participate in discussions and activities that reduce the throw-aways of our society.  Click HERE for more about the Three Rs committee (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).

When and Where?

We generally meet on Thursday afternoons, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm (except holidays).  Take a look at our calendar to find the next date and location!

Or contact Peggy Sanford and our Rags2Bags team at r2b@sustainabletallahassee.org.  Peggy is our program chair and a member of Sustainable Tallahassee's Board of Directors.

We invite you to come as often and whenever you can!

Our fun and accomplishments!

In 2016 and 2017 we made and gave away over 5,000 bags. Check out these links for how we did it:

"Greening the 2016 LeMoyne Chain of Parks Art Festival"

Donations Please!

Your help in donating bag-appropriate fabric will be appreciated. The team is also periodically in need of donations of sewing machines, thread, and sergers.

We also need donations of used, clean, no-longer-needed t-shirts that we're stitching into produce bags for a local food bank to use instead of plastic bags.  It will take 150 t-shirt donations a month to keep up with the need.

Drop-off locations are included on our meeting dates on our calendar.  Donations that are dropped off should be clearly designated as being for R2B to avoid being mixed in with other donations being given to these entities.

Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle!

Our Rags2Bags program is an important initiative in our focus to Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, and Recycle.  If you're interested in more about these, consider joining our "Super Rs" Committee, where we collaborate on how to address local challenges to the throw-aways of our society.  Click HERE for more about the Super Rs committee (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle).
