Our Positions
Tallahassee needs to invest in clean renewable energy sources to power our electric grid
and begin the move away from the use of natural gas to generate electricity – to the point that by 2050 very little
natural gas is in use for that purpose. Read More
The City of Tallahassee, in support of its commitment to 100% clean renewable energy by 2050, should discontinue its program of natural gas incentives, including waiver of the street to house connection
fee, low interest loans, and rebates for natural gas appliances and heating systems. Read More
Tallahassee, as the state capital, should serve as a role model for renewable energy expansion in Florida.
Sustainable Tallahassee works to promote Tallahassee’s transition to renewable energy sources by working with local government leaders and educating the public.
In 2019, the City of Tallahassee passed the Clean Energy Resolution and committed to transitioning to 100% clean, renewable energy by 2050, with continued reductions in greenhouse gas emissions along the way. Sustainable Tallahassee is committed to continuing advocacy efforts in support of the City reaching this goal.
The Renewable Energy Committee created a Community Carbon Dioxide Scorecard for 2020. See what the results were here:

Preparing for a Changing World
Our Renewable Energy Advocacy Committee (REA) strives to serve as an impetus for expanding renewable energy production in our community, particularly in the area of solar power.
Solar power generation improves environmental quality, reduces CO2 emissions, and adds diversity to our fuel sources for electricity.
If you have expertise in renewable energy and are motivated to help accomplish our mission, we welcome your participation.
ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION
One component of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions is finding alternatives to transportation that relies on fossil fuels.
Sustainable Tallahassee’s Ride Electric Club serves as the community’s educational resource on EV ownership. Meet the Ride Electric Club members at their monthly social or special events to learn everything you need to know to become a confident new EV owner.
Follow us on Facebook to find out where the EVs will be next and to chat with EV owners about any questions you might have!
You can also check out our Sustainable Transportation Committee for a more focused approach to reducing our reliance on vehicles for transportation
